0

By Scroll reporter Lagos, Nigeria.

Roseline chukwuma, Chaz B’s widow said she has forgiven the blogger who defamed her in a story title “Chaz B’s Widow in Sizzling Affair with Nollywood Actor, Daniel K.” The blogger with the link https://kemiashefonlovehaven.blogspot.com.ng/2016/10/retraction.html had begged Chaz’s B’s widow admitting that the story was untrue. The blogger said she regretted her unprofessional conduct.

Chaz B’s widow
Late Chaz B

In a retraction the blogger said “We hereby acknowledge a report posted on this blog on July 3, 2016 which reported a sizzling romance between Mrs. Roseline Chinyere Chukuma, the widow of the late famous broadcaster Chaz B, and Nollywood fast-rising star, Daniel Kanayo Daniel popularly known as DKD, that the well circulated story was an error, misleading and untrue.
This blog later discovered that it was misinformed as our sources’ claims could not be substantiated when it became necessary. Our mistake was a blind trust in the sources; and this we regret. Consequent upon the facts available as counter-claims provided by Mrs. Chukuma, we now realise the following:

• That Chaz B’s widow (Mrs. Chukuma) and Daniel Kanayo Daniel, DKD, have NEVER met. Therefore, the issue of visits to her house or seen together in public places could not have been true.
• That both of them were in Lagos during Valentine and not in Ghana as wrongly reported.
• That Mrs. Chukuma and her daughter, Monalisa, traveled for holiday in Ghana February 16, 2016, two days after Valentine.
• That the aspect concerning her in-laws and financial matters as earlier reported in the story could neither be confirmed nor substantiated as well.

In the light of aforementioned, her lawyer, Festus Keyamo Chambers wrote to us asking for a retraction, disclaimer and unreserved apology for the embarrassment and negative comments the story had brought on the public image of her client. Likewise, Mrs. Chukuma also petitioned the Police Area ‘M’ Command, Idimu, Lagos, against us over the same matter.

Consequent upon apparent inappropriateness of our unprofessional conduct and lapses in the publication of the story, we therefore tender UNRESERVED APOLOGY to all those mentioned in the story; in particular, Mrs Roseline Chinyere Chukuma, Chaz B’s widow.

For all the moral, psychological, emotional, health and financial losses Mrs. Chukuma might have suffered as a result of the story, we are indeed very sorry as we regret every inconvenience it has brought upon her relationships, business and image. This apology equally extends to the little Monalisa for being projected in the scandalous story innocently.

We wish to formally dissociate this blog from the story henceforth. This DISCLAIMER serves as a notice that anyone that further spreads, quotes or makes references to the story does so at his/her own risk. We are no longer responsible for the story henceforth. Bloggers, journalists and public please take note.”

AFCON 2017: WHO IS THE NEXT AFRICAN CHAMPIONS?

0
By Yemi Babalola Lagos, Nigeria.
The 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) taking place in Gabon is at the height of entertaining football fans and lovers, what more can be required of a competition that started out with 16 teams (Gabon, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Guinea Bissau, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Togo, Dr Congo, Togo, Ghana, Egypt, Mali,) slugging it out to know which of them would be champions of the on-going African Cup of Nation. For a competition that started on January 14, and provided 8 teams for the quarterfinals from the initial 4 groups.
Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Senegal, Tunisia, Dr Congo, Morocco, Ghana and Egypt were the teams that progressed from the groups to slug it out in the quarter-final stages. Among these 8 teams, Senegal, Ghana and Egypt looked like the favorites in the pool of nations herein. But then, after the knocking out of Senegal whom some pundits where tipping to go all the way considering their start in the competition, most attention shifted to Ghana and some even assumed their nearly winning the title syndrome would end in this edition of the competition.
But that was not the story on Wednesday when Egypt defeated a resilient Burkina Faso side 4-3 on penalties at the Stade de L’Amitie, Libreville, after playing 1-1 after extra time courtesy of goals scored first by Mohammed Salah of Egypt before Aristide Bance of Burkina Faso equalized . Likewise, on February 2, 2017, the Indomitable lions of Cameroon crushed the Black Stars of Ghana 2-0 in Stade de Franceville, Gabon.
ĶThe Ghanaians were not able to convert their opportunities to get in front in the match. The Cameroonians sat back and hurt Ghana when it mattered most, by Micheal Ngadeu-Ngadjui scoring a header in the 72nd minute of the semi-final and Christian Bassogog nipping it in the bud for the Ghanaians in the extra minutes after full-time. This ended the hope of the Black Stars who were finalist in the last edition of the competition and means they would be playing the third place match with Burkina-Faso on Saturday 4 February, 2017.
While, Egypt and Cameroon, two of the continent’s football powerhouses, will face off in the final of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Libreville, Gabon, on Sunday night. The match will be held at Stade de l’Amitie, kick-off at 9pm CAT.

Cameroon have been one of the surprise packages of the 2017 edition, shrugging off the absence of several major stars to power past some of the tournament’s strongest teams in their path to the final. The Indomitable Lions will see the match against Egypt as a chance for revenge: they were beaten 1-0 by the Pharaohs in the final of the 2008 Afcon in Ghana and could claim a fifth continental crown (and a first since 2002) on Sunday night.

Egypt, meanwhile, have shown themselves as giants of African football in their path to the final, topping their group ahead of Ghana, beating North African rivals Morocco for the first time in over three decades in the quarterfinal, and then overcoming a powerful Burkina Faso on penalties in the semi. The Pharaohs haven’t necessarily dominated their matches, but a resilient defense (just one goal conceded in Gabon), breathtaking pace on the counter attack and a canny nous at set pieces has helped them look the archetypal ‘tournament’ team at this Afcon.

One thing is certain, about this finals, on Monday 6 February, African continent would have a new champion. If the champion would emerge from Central Africa or North Africa is what only time would tell.

DIARY OF A WIDOW

0

By Adenike Ladipo Lagos, Nigeria.

I got up today and I remembered a lot of my yesterdays, and I just looked up and began to wonder how far I have come. When I consider many women in a similar conditions who are still struggling with  life. Each new day had its special package and I started healing from the inside, many considered me brave, but I always say to them, it’s not about being brave; rather it is more of harnessing the strength from within with the one without.

The period before my husband’s burial was the most uncertain time of my life, though just a week interval, yet it seemed like forever, lots of things were going on in mind, questions on what would become of me and my children, I was so eaten up by fear, yet I appear calm on the outside, I kept on asking how I was to conduct myself, I lost appetite completely.,  My thought, was how can I eat food when my husband laid lifeless somewhere, that scared me so much, words failed me to express what my feeling was. As the day progressed, I became more apprehensive of the event that was about to unfold, how do you prepare for a burial? I was nervous, then I flashed back, I remembered when we were preparing for our wedding. I was so nervous then too, only this time around it was preparation to bid him final goodbye, at this point I paused and tears stated rolling down again, you mean I will never see him again, I will not have someone to call me “woman” as he used to. I can still remember then, he will call me, “woman am on my way, make vegetable with cold eba down for me” those were his words and I will scold him “Mr Ladipo, your English get as e be”.He was a good friend, I miss him every day, though we had our own moments of disagreement, every marriage does, yet it remain fresh in my memory, he does not go to sleep with anger, he solved every issue before bedtime.

The day of the burial came with so much apprehension, I was shaking from the inside,. How do I go on from this point, I saw faces, some gloomy, some smiling with words of hope and assurance, so many promises I got, yet I was careful not to cling to them.   I looked down at the grave side, stared at my husband’s coffin amid tears all I could mutter was “why did you leave us…” I raised my head and reached out for my children, it dawned on me at that point; the journey to loneliness had just  just begun., A new chapter of life just opened for me.

As the tradition required, I was to stay in confinement for a period of 41days I was called by my in-laws that I just have to follow and keep the tradition, but in all honesty, I was more than willing to go through with it, how do I show my husband respect even in his death, and it turned out to be a spiritual journey.

The period of 41 days of confinement, mourning as a widow was a process, a learning process, learning to take charge, a period of self-rediscovery, I learnt  courage, I learnt to  push stress down inside and chew it up, I learnt to control my temperament –anger, grow spiritually, became  independent, my emotion was tamed and put in check.

In all honesty, I still made my blunders, I stumbled here and there, this many a times made me remember  that I am still human and the role of perfection could only be left to the Amighty!

TIGHT SECURITY IN LASU AS ASUU SECRETARY FACES PANEL

0

By Tayo Joseph Lagos, Nigeria.

Wale Adeyemi- Suenu, Head of Department of History and International Studies and Secretary of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, LASU, chapter is facing a panel over illegal alteration of students results, amid tight security.

Vice chancellor (LASU)

Scroll Report learnt that operatives from Directorate of State Security were at the university gate to check motorists  and pedestrains entering the campus. The reason is that the panel set up to investigate the allegation of illegal alteration  is sitting today. The security is to forestall any form  violence from either ASUU or students while the panel is sitting.

The panel was set up by the university authority to investigate the allegation that Suenu illegally altered students results at the end of second semester of last year.

A letter was given to Adewale-Suenu last month to appear before the panel within a very short notice. A member of ASUU  told Scroll Report that each time the panel sat, there was heavy presence of security and the proceedings are recorded.

He wondered why Adewale-Suenu case “is like this because a similar allegation was levelled against Adebola Ademeso, also a lecturer and a panel was set up to investigate him since last year up till now nothing has happened. In Ademeso’s case there were no security presence and there were no video recording. This must be an attempt to bring down ASUU.”He said

Scroll Report learnt that Ademeso allegedly altered a student’s results before it was uploaded. But in Adewale-Suenu case it is alleged that he illegally altered the students result after it was uploaded.

When lectures upload students results, and there are issues the students can complain to the Head of Department, HOD, if the complaints are true and genuine. For two days the HOD has the power to make alterations through what is called HOD’s window.

If there are further complaints the issue will be taken to the Dean of Faculty where he too can use the Dean’s window to effect corrections.

Scroll Report learnt that some lecturers use this opportunity to make illegal alterations. In the case of Adeyemi-Suenu, it is alleged that he made the illegal alteration on the result of student that did not complain officially.

The Data Processing Unit was said to have detected the alteration because it was Adeyemi-Suenu’s password that was allegedly used to make the illegal alteration.

All efforts made to talk to Adeyemi-Suenu and Ademeso proved abortive…

GABON AFRICAN CUP OF NATION SEMI-FINALS DRAW

0
By Yemi Babalola Lagos, Nigeria.
The Gabon  2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) is at the penultimate stages of semi-finals, where Burkina-Faso would be slugging it out with North African giants Egypt, and West African compatriots Cameroon would take on Ghana respectively. It must be noted that the remaining teams are being managed by foreigners, Hugo Broos manages Cameroon, Hector Cuper manages Egypt; Avram Grant manages Ghana and Paulo Duarte manages Burkina-faso, these are the four coaches still standing as AFCON 2017 move into the semi-finals.

Looking inwards into the camps of the semi-finalists, half of the Burkinabes are playing their Africa Cup of Nations finals, with any of the in their early 20’s merged with some other experienced legs like Patriopa and Bounce making up the balance for the team. Jonathan Pitroipa, named the best player of the AFCON 2013 tournament, and Spanish-based striker Jonathan Zongo were ruled out in the opening week after knee injuries. But the manager Paulo Duarte has confirmed the availability of other players to slug it out with Egypt on Feburary 1, 2017 and the team’s ambition burns brightly as they seek another chance to win their first major title.
In the Egyptian camp, Argentine manager Hector Cuper has expressed his worries over the little recovery time his players have before their match against Burkina Faso on Wednesday. Egypt and Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny will not recover from injury in time to ace Burkina Faso in Wednesday’s Africa Cup of Nations semi-final. The 24-year-old is still nursing a calf problem that kept him out Sunday’s 1-0 quarter-final win over Morocco. Egypt will face Burkina Faso in their semi-final in Libreville on Wednesday and they are likely to be without striker Marwan Mohsen for that game according to the manager. Egypt are just emerging from seven years away without participating in the finals and were fortunate to win Sunday’s quarter-final over Morocco.
While, in the camp of Cameroon, the players did not show up on Monday 30, January 2017 for training over bonus rows with the government of Cameroon. The team managed by Hugo Broos are asking for their qualification bonus and semi finals in the tune of 12 million Central African Francs per player. The players have demanded that the government meet their demands by paying the full amount before they can go back to training to prepare for semi-finals in Franceville on Thursday against Ghana. The odds are however stacked against Cameroon who have only managed one win against Ghana in their past seven meetings, drawn thrice and lost thrice. Though the Cameroonians would have had one more day rest than their Ghanaian counterparts coming into their next fixture.

As for the Ghanaians, it has been confirmed that the Black Stars have arrived the town of Bongoville which houses their base camp situated near Franceville on Monday 30, 2017 ahead of their semifinal clash with Cameroon. The team is hoping that their injured Captain Asamoah Gyan who picked up a knock in Ghana’s loss to Egypt in Port Gentil, would be fit before Thursday when they take on Cameroon. Other players have been training under the supervision of their manager Avram Grant. Ghana’s Avram Grant says his team deserve respect following criticism by some fans and sections of the media. Grant’s side are in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations but that has not stopped some Ghanaians expressing dissatisfaction with the performances. Hopefully, the Ayew brothers-Jordan and Andre who have raised their level in Gabon and have provided comfort to coach Avram Grant would continue their fine form.

In conclusion, it should be noted that of the semi-finalists, Egypt are seven times champions of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), Cameroon and Ghana, are both four-time African champions, and Burkina Faso would be hoping to make it to the finals and win their first AFCON title.
