SERENA WILLIAMS’S JOY OF MOTHERHOOD

Back in the early and mid-year 2000’s the secondary schools in Nigeria added a book to the curriculum of English and literature students, that book was called ‘The Joys of Motherhood’ by veteran writer, lecturer, and feminist Buchi Emecheta.

However, the book or its author is not the focus of this discuss asthe focus is no other than tennis star and legend Serena Williams. On September 1 2017, she welcomed a bouncing baby girl with her technology geek fiancé Alexis Ohanian.

Sometime last week she revealed the first picture of the baby and as well introduced her to the world as Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr, who wore a cloth (Smart and Strong like my Mama) reiterating that she is indeed the daughter of two great minds.

In a video, Serena subsequently posted on her website she highlighted some complications she went through but surmounted and eventually got her beautiful baby girl.

Though the birth of Alexis Jr is over two weeks, it looks like the new mother Serena is still basking in the euphoria of her birth. As on Monday, she could not help sharing on social media her new status ‘it’s very weird for me to believe I have a child… a KID. I am a mom. A real MOM’.

Clearly, Serena has been enjoying every moment of being a mother and just cannot seem to get over the joy. There definitely are still more hurdles to cross in the motherhood journey and as in every other aspect of her life, the new mother is looking as prepared for the journey and enjoying every minute of the new discoveries with her new status as a mother.

We are wishing Serena Williams all the best in this new course of life. We hope to see more of baby Alexis who already has a grand slam win ascribed to her by her mother, as she was already on her way to the world when her mother won the Australian Open back in January 2017.
