The home based Super Eagles of Nigeria who are currently in Ghana for the WAFU Cup did indeed leave things late at the competition. The team drew their first two games in Group A were they are in alongside other West African neighbours Mali, Guinea and host nation Ghana.
Started slowly but they did not fail to put smile on the face of the fans on the pitch yesterday Monday when they took on Ghana and floored them 2-0. Defeating Ghana gave the Super Eagles of Nigeria a ticket into the Semi-finals and progress alongside Ghana in their group.
Manager of the side, Salisu Yusuf reverted to a 4-2-3-1 formation, ditching his recently preferred 4-4-2 diamond formation, which has not yielded any result so far in the competition. The change paid off as Anthony Okpotuin the 52nd minute and Peter Eneji doubled the score line three minutes later.
Nigeria will face the winners of Group B – who will be decided on Tuesday night – in a semi-final clash on Thursday. While Ghana would take on whoever progresses alongside the winners of Group B.
