Desperate Mother of Quadruplets Appeals for Help from Nigerians

ORDINARILY, Mrs. Esther Chinwendu Odili, residing at No 1, T. M Chukwuma Close in Ijegun-Ikotun, Alimosho local government area of Lagos State, would not pester anyone for her personal life’s challenges.

But given her current helpless situation, she is reaching out to the public in a heartfelt plea for assistance to raise the bundles of joy God bestowed on her, but she would not wish them to suffer hunger and deprivation.

She said that it was with surprising shock and joy that she welcomed four precious babies into the world on April 20th, 2023.

However, she was quickly jolted out of the joy of their arrival as she got overshadowed by the financial strain of caring for them.

Before their birth, Mrs. Odili said she had undergone a period of bed rest at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja (LASUTH), where she reached out to hospital management, expressing her need for financial support during and after delivery.

She said it was regrettable that her plea went unanswered, forcing her family to borrow money to cover mounting hospital bills.

She also noted that her husband, a recent graduate of the National Institute of Sports (NIS), has since then been doing his utmost best to provide for their growing family. But, despite his efforts, the financial burden remains insurmountable.

She said that the husband, Mr. Teddy U. Odili, had also at some point, reached out to the Lagos State government through the Ministry of Sports and Development since September 2023, but the family is yet to receive any assistance or response, noting that she could understand that the ministry could be probably overwhelmed with several other responsibilities.

Mrs. Odili disclosed that each day, as they navigate the challenges of caring for the quadruplets, and all boys who eat lots for that matter, everything becomes like a nightmare because as they grow up in the last one year; it’s just like their appetite expands or enlarges, as she notes she really couldn’t capture it with a proper adjective.

It is this reality of their glaring situation in the current economic realities that now compelled her to plead with her husband to allow her appeal for financial assistance from well-meaning and kind-hearted Nigerians to, in their goodwill, please, support them to raise the four boys.

“They need foods, regular children’s medications, clothing, especially in this period of weather fluctuations, and in other ways, because each passing day, she is recognizing that the journey ahead will not be easy without the generosity and kindness of others.

“Truly, I am not happy doing this. I never imagine it. But this is a need we cannot bare alone. This is why we are seeking for help, and we pledge to use the money reasonably for the sake of the innocent lives.

“We are grateful for your kind assistance sent to: Access Bank, Odili Chinwendu Esther, No: 1806686975. And I say thank you all for helping us to survive this huddle of life.”

UNITED STATES SPENT $15 MILLION; TRAINED OVER 46,000 IN DISPUTE RESOLUTION FOR NORTHERN AND MIDDLE-BELT REGION

By Edoamaowo Udeme

The United States and Nigeria are working together to address and mitigate the drivers of conflict in northern and middle-belt Nigeria, including ethnic, regional, and sectarian tensions across communities.

USAID Director Melissa Jones delivers remarks

According to a released statement from the US Embassy Nigeria, Over the past five years, the United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), has invested $15 million in the Community Initiatives to Promote Peace (CIPP) program.

This initiative has trained more than 46,000 community members, including traditional leaders, women, men, and youth, in six states – Benue, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kogi, and Plateau – on skills such as dispute resolution, early warning and early response, reconciliation efforts, and prevention of violent extremism.

The CIPP program has  helped mitigate violent conflict in at-risk communities and engaged women and youth in peace processes. A randomized control trial, which compared how the activity worked in its target communities with nearby communities that did not include any interventions, showed that despite the overall increase in violence in Plateau, Benue, and other states, violent conflict was lower in communities where USAID worked.

For instance, after four years of implementation, the study showed that only 29 percent of CIPP treatment communities experienced violent incidents, compared to 55 percent in control communities – a difference of 26 percent.

“The CIPP activity has shown that a timely investment in peace can yield remarkable dividends,” said USAID Mission Director, Melissa A. Jones at yesterday’s ceremony.

“Individuals trained in conflict mediation skills across Nigeria’s Middle Belt helped resolve hundreds of disputes before they escalated further,” she added.

As part of its closeout plan, USAID will transfer some of CIPP’s community structures, such as Conflict Mitigation Regional Councils and Women Peace Councils, to its new Peace Action for Rapid and Transformative Nigerian Early Response activity. This will ensure continuity and sustained progress in our shared mission to promote peace and security in the northern and middle-belt regions.

Actress Toyin Abraham Ends Rivalry With Funke Akindele

Famous Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Toyin Abraham, has revealed to everyone that cares to know that she has finally turned deaf ears to gossips which according to her is the number one cause of fights in the Nigerian movie industry.

She also revealed how she ended the rivalry between she and her colleague, Funke Akindele a.k.a Jenifa whom she described as her biggest competitor.

Toyin Abraham made the revelation on Sunday April 21st, 2024 via her Instagram page.

She wrote; “If you guys knew the fierce competition to be number one in those days in the Yoruba industry (I don’t know if that still exists though). The fierce competition created camps, enmity, and many professional gossips. The number one cause of fights in the industry then was ‘he said, she said’ before the social media era.”

“Dear Nollywood people, let me chip this in, stop tearing the industry down with your gossips. You have caused lots of damage with ‘he-said, she-said’. Let me go back to my story.”

“In those days of the Yoruba film industry, @funkejenifaakindele was like number one after the likes of Aunty Bukky and Aunty Faithia. I was the next in line. The competition was much and with many gossips in between, we became competitors and persona non grata.”

“She moved on to the English industry, I became number one before moving on too (A word of advice to young actors of today, no one will be number one forever. It doesn’t mean you fall down the pecking order, it might just be that you move on to bigger things. E rora tele bashubashu. You don’t own the industry, the industry is bigger than you).”

“In the English industry, Aunty Funke and I continued the rivalry sort of. It pitted our fans against each other. We are two competitive Virgo women, we love to win and sometimes in that process, we splash dirt and mud. But with time, age, and more wisdom, I have realized we can compete without being negatively competitive.”

“Aunty Funke, I celebrate you for showing us what is possible. You are a winner. You sold over 1B, you made it possible for other women to dream. You ran us street with that 1B o, this year, many of us will move to 1B and we pray God makes you bigger.”
