EU supports Yobe Govt. with resilience livelihood projects

The European Union (EU) resilience in complex crisis programme, funded by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) is to improve the livelihoods of insurgency affected people in Yobe State.

While implementing the programme, six council areas of Gujba, Geidam, Yunusari, Gulani, Potiskum and Damaturu, the State capital are targeted by EU.

The State’s Director of BRICS, Freeman Muleya, disclosed this at the weekend in Damaturu, while reviewing the stakeholders’ livelihoods recovery projects in the state.

“The delivery of safety nets are to improve social cohesion, conflict resolution and management,” he said, adding that they will also increase access to finance through the registered savings and investment associations tagged: “Adashen Gata.”

He said the implementation by the State Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) will improve on-farm production through climate smart agriculture and conditional grants support to the small holder farmers.

Besides increase in farm livelihoods, he added that there would be vocational and entrepreneurial training of youths and women in the targeted councils.

Responding, the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali said that the MDAs will not fail the EU in the implementation of livelihood support projects in targeted councils affected by over a decade conflict.
