Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state; has applauded the Nigerian Army for repelling Boko Haram attacks on the Geidam community. The border community with Niger was recently attacked by insurgents, displacing over 6,000 residents to flee to Damaturu and Yunusari.
The Director General for press and media affairs, Mamman Mohammed disclosed: “Buni saluted the Commanding Officer, who mobilized troops and chased the terrorists away from attacking Geidam yesterday (Wednesday).” He said the Commander has ordered his men to confront the enemy and fled towards the border areas with Niger. “Although the enemy withdrew, the soldiers gallantly pursued them,” he said; adding that the environs of the town have been cleared with the laying of ambush at the outskirts of Geidam. He said the state government and people have appreciated troops’ act of bravery to secure the general area. According to him, the protection of Geidam has allowed the people to celebrate Sallah festivities peacefully.
He explained that such proactive measures will check the wanton attacks on innocent communities. “You have done us proud, the government and people of the state will continue to support you,” he assured. He therefore urged the people to always volunteer useful and timely information to the security operatives to enhance proactive measures against terrorism. “You should provide credible information on suspicious movements around your communities to the security and other relevant authorities to enhance timely response” he said.
