Buni Engages 39 Workers To Digitalise Two Media Outfits

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state, has engaged 39 workers to
digitalize State’s television and radio stations.
According to him, the recruitment exercise, was to meet manpower
requirements for the ongoing digitization of Yobe Broadcasting
Corporation and State Television (YBC, YTV).
The two media outfits, established by Sen. Bukar Abba Ibrahim in 1992,
are located om Gashua and Gujba roads, Damaturu, the state capital.
While announcing recruitment exercise before officials of YTV and YBC
Monday in Damaturu, the Commissioner of Information, Abdullahi Bego
disclosed that; “Governor Buni has already approved N67 million for
the ‘overhaul and digitalization’ of media outfits; were established
by Sen. Bukar Abba Ibrahim about three decades ago.
“He also directed for the formulation of strategies; that will ensure
effective implementation of the digitization process,” noting that
digitalization process, comprises equipping and staff strengthening
for capacity deliveries.
He added that the next step; is to train and re-train the recruited
staff of two media outfits for efficiency, while performing their
jobs.
“The casual staff billed for employment were serving at the stations
for more than eight years,” he said, noting that some of them were
serving without permanent appointment letters.
He said the recruitment exercise, was in recognitions to their
experiences in radio and television broadcasts and dedication to duty.
He therefore, commended RATTAWU among other members of the
organization for their effort in informing, enlightening, and
entertaining the public.
RATTAWU’s Chairman, Comrade Nasiru Illiya,  said they were at his
office to register their gratitude to the giant strides of Buni,
particularly the digitization of the two media organisations.
“Sir, we are equally very grateful to note that within your short stay
as commissioner of Information, we have started witnessing a positive
transformation in the media sector,” he said, adding that award of
contracts worth millions of naira for upgrading YBC and YTV from
analogue to digital transmission.
“As I am speaking to you now sir, YBC is online transmission live,” he said.
