Borno police commissioner confirms death of 11 policemen, others

Borno State Police new Commissioner, Bello Makwashi, has confirmed the
death of eight policemen and three Civilian JTF in Boko Haram convoy
attack near Cross Kauwa in Kukawa Local Government Area.

Cross Kauwa, is on shores of Lake Chad, 150 kilometres north of
Maiduguri, the state capital.

Spokesman of police command, DSP Edet Okon, Saturday in Maiduguri,
disclosed that; “On September 25, 2020, at noon, the security convoy
who were heading to Baga to relocate indigenes of Baga to their
ancestral home came under heavy gun attack.

“The attacked was launched by armed men suspected to be Boko Haram
terrorists a few kilometers from Cross Kauwa,” noting that the
security convoy returned fire and successfully repelled the attack.

According to him, in the ensuing gun fight casualties were however;
recorded on both sides.

Continued; “Unfortunately, eight policemen and three members of
Civilian JTF paid the supreme price.

“While 13 other persons sustained various degrees of injuries and were
rushed to Hospital for treatment.”

Makwashi therefore, assured the people that Nigerian Police is
determined to carryout its constitutional mandate to protect people’s
lives and property.

“We’ll not relent in providing the needed security for the good
citizens of Borno State at all times,” he said
