Zulum Continue To Mourn 11 Security Pesonnel, Salutes Their Sacrifices For Peace

Date:

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state, has continued to mourn 11
security personnel ambushed and killed on their way to back up
security during reconstruction and resettlement efforts in Baga.
The slain personnel, include eight policemen and three Civilian JTF
that had been providing backups in the ongoing counter-insurgency
military operations in Lake Chad region.
According to him, Baga was attacked by Boko Haram in 2014, forcing
over 65, 000 residents to flee and took refuge in Monguno and
Maiduguri internally displaced persons’ (IDPs) camps for five years.
While commencing return of IDPs, he disclosed that; “I’m here today
(Friday) to supervise the return of 30,000 Baga IDPs. It’s part of
strategies; aimed at cutting off Boko Haram’s long use of commercial
towns as main transit for fish trade and tax administration.”
He said terrorists fund their murderous activities with proceeds of
fish trading and other means of income from illegal trade in livestock
and agricultural produce.
He added that Baga, is Borno’s largest fishing community on shores of
Lake Chad, with waters resources considered to be economically
strategic in terrorists’ activities in the Basin areas.
“I’m very much saddened by this unfortunate carnage on people’s lives
and property in Baga,” he lamented, noting that he shares the grief of
families of slain security personnel.
Zulum, therefore, prayed for the repose of their souls, while urging
stakeholders to remain committed to ongoing peace building efforts.
“We must continue to keep hope alive even in the face of
tribulations,” he said; believing that with sustained efforts and
prayers, the state will eventually regain peace.
Continued; “The situation facing us is a tough one but we must choose
between doing something which gives us some hope,” warning that doing
nothing which could be more vulnerable for Boko Haram to takeover
Borno under their sovereign brutal administration must be fought to
end war.
Meanwhile, while in Baga, he attended Jumat prayers for the first
time, two years after the recapture of town by military.
In the Governor’s convoy were the Senator representing Borno north
senatorial disctrict, Abubakar Kyari, National Assembly Members,
representing Marte/Monguno/Nganzai, and Mobbar/Kukawa/Guzamala/Abadam
federal constituencies, Mohammed Tahir Monguno and Bukar Kareto.
Other legislators, include Speaker of Borno State House of Assembly,
Abdulkarim Lawan, Chairman of Baga resettlement committee and
Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Kaka Shehu Lawan were on the
resettlement exercises among top government officials.
