MNJTF KILLS 55 ISWAP COMMANDERS, TERRORISTS IN BORNO

Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have killed 55 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists and commanders at the fringes of Arege in Abadam local council, Borno state.

The several commanders were neutralized during 22-day operations of Harbin Zuma on the shores of Lake Chad that ended on May 28, 2023.

A counter-insurgency expert, in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed, yesterday (Thursday), in Maiduguri that 13 each of vehicles and motorcycles and five Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIED) were also destroyed by the troops.

According to the Niger Ministry of Defence, the three-week joint-military operations targeted ISWAP strongholds with their commanders in the Tumbums triangle.

A military source in Maiduguri, also identified the killed commanders to include Fiya Abouzeid, Qaid Malam Moustapha, as well as several religious leaders, are yet to be confirmed.

He further disclosed that there was a joint military operation between Niger and Nigerian Air Task Force that made it possible to identify terrorists and their hideouts for elimination.

He said that after the joint border operations, two soldiers were killed with wounding of three others.

According to Makama, a phantom Mine Resistance Ambush Vehicle (MRAP) was damaged during the operations.

According to him, the joint border operations was to cut off supply routes of the terrorists groups, and reduce threats in the Lake Chad region.
