WHO TRAINS BORNO HEALTH WORKERS IN EMERGENCY RESPONSES, HEALTH THREATS

The World Health Organisation (WHO) in collaboration with the Borno State government and National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has trained 98 health workers to manage public health threats in the State.

The about 100 trainees comprised Directors of Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) and the surveillance and laboratory focal persons.

The four-day training is supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Declaring the training session open, yesterday (Wednesday), in Maiduguri, the State Commissioner of Health and Human Services, represented by the Director of Public Health, Dr. Goni Abba, disclosed that; “The four-day training of health workers will build their capacities in managing incidents of health threats in the state.”

He, therefore, urged them to pay attention during the training sessions in building up their capacities to overcome the challenges of disease outbreaks and responses.

The Northeast Emergency Manager, represented by the WHO, Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), Dr. Simon Manuel, urged the participants to be committed by making good use of the training opportunities respond to infectious diseases.

While the Director General of NCDC, represented by Mrs. Sylvia Ezenwa-Ahanene, disclosed that the capacity building of health workers will ensure effective coordination of disease outbreaks at the state and council levels.

According to her, the trained health workers could demonstrate the mastery of the Public Health Emergency Operations (PHEOC) terminologies.

She added that they will understand the incident management system (IMS) during emergency responses.
