WHO SUPPORTS FOUNDATION WITH HEALTHCARE, NUTRITION IN YOBE

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has supported 257 orphans at the Yetim Care Foundation with healthcare and nutritious food items.

The UN agency targeted the orphans and other vulnerable persons affected by the 13-year conflict in the Northeast.

Distributing the food and non-food items, yesterday (Thursday), in Damaturu, the State Coordinator of WHO, Dr. Nuhu Ningi, disclosed: “We’ll continue to provide healthcare support to the vulnerable persons, including the 257 orphans at the Yetim Foundation.”

He explained that the distribution of food and non-food items was also to mark WHO 75 anniversary in the global health sector.

His words: “Our support was to free all the communities from the various pandemics and epidemics in the state.

“You should not lose hope. We have identified your state of health conditions in the various communities.”

Ningi assured that the organisation will regularly visit to provide you with the essential basic needs of life.

While receiving the distributed materials, the Coordinator of the Foundation, Muhammadu Gambo, who represented the Board of Directors, said that 80 of the orphans live at the Yetim Care Centre, while 177 are with their guardians.

He added that since the establishment of the Foundation in 2006, the State government had been providing infrastructural facilities, food and the payments of teachers’ salaries.

He, therefore, urged development partners and other philanthropists to continue support orphans and the vulnerable persons.

While appreciating the support, he said: “Many of the orphans have graduated to be employed by the State government or self-employed.”
