NEDC TO UPGRADE TWO BORNO HOSPITALS FOR HEALTHCARE DELIVERY

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) is to fully renovate two hospitals to boost healthcare delivery services in Borno state.

The renovations of health facilities included the Maiduguri Eye and Dental Hospitals commissioned in 1987 by the Military Administrator, Col. Abdulminini Aminu (rtd).

Unveiling the installed facilities, yesterday (Tuesday), in Maiduguri, the Managing Director of the Commission, Mohammed Alkali disclosed: “The two hospitals comprised the expansion and upgrade of their operation theatres, installations of solar power to the renovated operation suites, general plumbing and electrical works.”

According to him, the interventions are in the general complex for the two hospitals comprising a library, conference room, staff lounge, canteen and offices.

His words: “We’re going to provide other facilities including a laboratory equipped complex, furnished staff quarters and the reinforcement of a perimeter fencing of the two hospitals,”

He said that interventions were concluded, after the Commission had inspected and assessed the existing structures and other medical facilities along with the Medical Director of the Eye Hospital, Dr. Falmata Kyari.

Besides, he added that there are surgical equipment and other medical facilities required for a comprehensive renovation of health projects.

Continued; ““The doctors are to be fully equipped with modern medical facilities before they could render effective eye care and dental services to the people,” he said.

Excited by the hospitals’ structural constructions, the Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Prof. Mohammed Alhaji Arab, said that the upgrade of hospitals’ facilities will boost the delivery of healthcare services in the state and Northeast region.

He noted that the renovation health projects at the twin hospitals, will complement the training and retraining of more health workers for effective healthcare coverage.
