ICRC Provides Psychosocial Support, Others To Victims of Conflict

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has provided psychosocial support and mental health to 5, 716 victims of conflict in the Northeast.

The 13-insurgency has also killed about 40, 000 people with the destruction of property worth $9.2 billion (N4.23 trillion) in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.

According to the Committee, about 800 sensitization and information sessions were provided to the victims on mental health.

This was disclosed, yesterday (Wednesday) in the 2022 ICRC Operational Facts and Figures dashboard and released to journalists in Damaturu, Yobe state.

ICRC’s Head of Delegation in Nigeria, Yann Bonzon, said: “We strive to meet the needs of all conflict affected communities, whether emergency aid or sustainable conditions to mental disorders.”

He said that the mental health and psychosocial support were provided by the National Red Crescent Society (NRCS) staff, volunteers and accompaniers.

Besides, he added that 1, 944 victims of conflict received direct face-to-face psychosocial support through 3, 105 group or individual counselling sessions.

On the prevention of cholera outbreaks, he further disclosed that 2.6 million people were reached with cholera prevention messages in Adamawa, Borno, Yobe states.

According to him, the prevention was rendered by 590 NRCS volunteers in collaboration with State Ministry of Health, Primary Health Care Development Agencies and local authorities.
