Buni Begins Construction Of N5B Road Project In Yobe

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state, has begun the construction of a N5 billion road project in the East senatorial district of the state.

The 34-kilometre Danchuwa-Jajare road project; was awarded to Qumex Nigeria Limited and to be completed in 18 months.

Flagging off the construction of road, yesterday (Thursday), in Jajare Community, Buni disclosed that; “This road project, was in fulfillment of our pledges to make rural communities accessible for the massive haulage of crops and livestock to markets.”

Besides, he noted that the completion of the road could also facilitate various economic activities in the state.

He lamented that the Jajare-Danchuwa road project was on the drawing board since 1999 and various attempts to construct it, however, failed due to various challenges.

Buni, therefore, directed the contractor to adhere to all specifications contained in the terms of road contract.

He noted that this was to ensure the accord of priority to the development of infrastructural facilities.

On the challenges of infrastructural facilities, he said: “We were confronted with the 13-year Boko Haram insurgency; COVID-19 pandemic, and the global recessions,” noting that they impacted negatively on both the national and state economies.

He said the administration overcomes the challenges to construct over 30 township and inter-town roads in redeeming the electioneering campaign pledges.

Continued; “Today, most of these roads have been completed, while others are at completion stages for commissioning this year.” adding that 25.3 kilometres of roads in Damaturu, Potiskum, Gashua, Nguru and Geidam were recently awarded.

He added that the State government has provided skill acquisition training to 100 youths in Jajere with a start-up pack of N150, 000 each.

According to him, in mitigating climate change, 500 farmers were distributed with farm inputs and irrigation facilities to boost their production and incomes.
