Children Are Shining Light of Today, Future-UNICEF

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Chief of Field Office, in Maiduguri, Phuong Nguyen has declared that children are the ‘shining light’ of today and the future.

Nguyen made the declarations to mark World Children’s Day (WCD) in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

The mark of children’s day was organised by Borno Literary Society with support of Education Cannot Wait (ECW) and the European Union (EU) in Nigeria.

“A world without children would be boring and unprogressive,” she warned.

The wife of Governor Babagana Zulum, Dr. Falmata Zulum, also added that WCD is a platform to celebrate and encourage children in the state.

According to her, children have continued to look at the brighter side of life, despite their challenges in the Northeast.

“I want to congratulate our children. I celebrate you and I urge you to continue being well-behaved and hopeful for a brighter tomorrow,” said the first lady.

On how the children secure their future, she said: “We will continue to ensure that children are protected and supported to achieve the best in life.’’

One of children living with disabilities of sight from birth, Bakura Mohammed, 15 of the Borno Specialists School, Maiduguri, read to broadcast the 1pm Al-Ansar 96.1FM news on Monday.

Mohammed’s news presentation to the public reads: “Good afternoon listeners at home.

“This is the news at 1pm brought to you on World’s Children’s Day by the Bono Literary Society and with support from Education Cannot Wait and the European Union in Nigeria.

“I am Bakura Mohammad, your news anchor,” stating that these are the highlights news story.

Continued; “Today is World Children’s Day! Congratulations to all children across the world; particularly in conflict-affected children in northeast Nigeria.

“The First Lady of Borno State, Dr. Falmata Babagana Zulum will kick off a football match between School A and School B today (Tuesday) at the University of Maiduguri.
