In a swift surprise ahead of the 2023 presidential race, the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde has thrown his weight behind Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This came as the substantive leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural and politcal organisation, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasonranti on Sunday, blessed the APC presidenrial candidate’s qusst for the Presidency.
Makinde, is one of the aggrieved G-5 PDP Governors u in arms against former vice president and the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. They have insisted on the ouster of the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu to pave way for a southerner.
The Yoruba leader’s blessing, with his hands placed on Tinubu’s head appears to have repudiated the earlier stance of another Afenifere chieftain, Ayo Adebanjo who has pitched his tent with the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
The Oyo governor was represented by his deputy, Bayo Lawal in Akure, the Ondo State capital when Tinubu visited the Afenifere leader and other Yoruba eggheads to present his 80-page blueprint ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
He said: “Oyo is for Asiwaju and Asiwaju is for Oyo”
