The Borno State coronavirus (COVID-19) response team; has recorded
three new deaths from Jere Local Government Area.
According to the team, yesterday’s deaths; were not related to index
cases, but the virus was contracted at community levels.
While attributing fresh deaths to community contacts, Secretary of
COVID-19 response team, Dr. Salihu Kwayabura, who also doubles as
Health Commissioner disclosed Wednesday that surveillance teams have
reached community levels of spreading virus.
He said the technical teams in communities; are to intensify their
campaigns on social distancing and contact tracing.
Households, according to him are to be identified, so that they assist
surveillance teams in breaking the chain of transmitting the deadly
virus.
He said that 20 surveillance teams, are deployed to high risk Jere
communities for contact tracing.
“We’re encouraging people to use their face masks in markets and other
public places,” he said, adding that sustenance of social distancing
could also break chains of transmission.
He urged that as the lock down is relaxed today (Thursday), residents
should also wash their hands before and after leaving the markets.
The Commissioner also pledged that 100,000 face masks will be
distributed to communities in Jere council.
