The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have attacked Boko Haram insurgents and families; fleeing military airstrikes in the Cingori/Yuwe axis of Bama Council in Borno state.
They were ambushed, while attempting to seek refuge in one of their hideouts in Cina village on the fringe of Sambisa Forest.
A counter-insurgency expert, in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, stated, yesterday (Wednesday), in Maiduguri that the fleeing Boko Haram terrorists and families were among those that escaped the recent military airstrikes at Gazuwa, Sheruri and Mantari villages.
He said that the terrorists were fleeing from the joint operations of 199 Special Force and 222 Battalions, Civilian JTF and the Air Task Force (ATF), Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) that neutralized over 200 terrorists, including five commanders.
According to him, the attacks had forced hundreds of terrorists and their families to flee the bombed camps for safer heavens in other hideouts of the forest.
On how the terrorists were attacked, he said: “On sighting the Boko Haram terrorists led by two commanders, the ISWAP started shooting at them,” adding that when they realize that there were women and children among them, they told their fighters to allow terrorists to flee, including the wounded ones.
He noted that many of them had no cloths or shoes to wear while fleeing the recent military airstrikes.
Besides, he added that the terrorists had only four motorcycles to flee with, while the other two were conveying the surviving commanders.
“Shortly after they were given the chance to flee, they moved toward the axis of Bulabulin to seek refuge on the fringe of forest,” he said.
