The Borno State government in collaboration with the Office of Head of Service (HoS) has trained 150 senior civil servants on skills to improve productivity for service delivery.
The workers are drawn from the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for a two-day training at the Musa Usman Secretariat Complex, Maiduguri.
Flagging off the training, yesterday (Wednesday), in Maiduguri, the HoS, Simon Malgwi disclosed that the two-day was organised in collaboration with Scieman Consultancy Nigeria Ltd.
He said that it is a management training consultancy to improve workers’ productivity and service delivery in the state.
The training led by Prof. Ibrahim Umara of the Department of Political Science, University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) was in line with Governor Babagana Zulum administration policy on effective and efficient service delivery.
He noted that the acquisition of skills on the policy thrust, are necessary for workers’ productivity in the implementation of various programmes across the state.
According to him, the senior workers are to be drilled in six thematic areas of leadership and good governance including human resource management.
He added that public works ethics and attitudinal change on productivity could also enhance service delivery.
“In 2020, this office with the support of the Governor trained 150 directors and deputy directors of administration and supplies,” he said, stating that 200 additional officers on Grade levels 08 and 13 are to be trained next week.
He said the training of 60 Stores Officers in the MDAs will also be conducted before the end of this year.
The number one civil servant in the state revealed that the COVID-19 Pandemic had slowed down the training process, but assured that the state government hopes to train more than 1,000 civil servants of all cadres including Permanent Secretaries before the end of 2022he Be“We hope to crown up the first phase of these training with a retreat for Permanent Secretaries in Abuja specifically on public procurement and contract management,” the Head of Service said.
On the workforce in the state, the Head of Service said, Borno state currently has over 16,000 Civil Servants, even as he acknowledged that the number of those retiring is alarming.
Besides the training, he added that there would be a retreat for Permanent Secretaries on public procurement and contract management.
He, therefore, urged the civil servants to take advantage of modern technology to improve on quality service delivery.
