NPC Starts Trial Census In Yobe State

Ahead of the 2023 census, the National Population Commission (NPC) has commenced a trial census in nine Council areas of Yobe State.

The trial census was to assess the quality and standards of Enumeration Area (EA) maps and determine the logistic support for next year’s Census.

The last headcount was conducted by NPC in 2006 with a total population of 142.54 million and projected to hit over 200 million.

 NPC’s State Commissioner, Mai-Aliyu Mohammed, stated that the trial census could estimate workload, as well as educational qualifications of enumerators.

According to him, the trail census are to be conducted in Gulani, Geidam, Fune, Potiskum, Nangere, Jakusko and Karasuwa, Yusufari and Yunusari, two border communities with Niger

“We have commenced the training of 110 facilitators, supervisors and enumerators between July 11 and July 24, 2022,” he said.

Besides, he added that house numbering will start from July 11-16, 2022, while validation of Enumeration Area Frame (EAF) is slated for July 17-19, 2022.

On the 2023 actual headcount, he said that enumeration of persons would will begin from July 20-24. 2023.
