Zulum Raises Doctors Salaries In Borno By 30 Percent

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state has raised the salaries of medical doctors operating in seven councils by 30 percent. According to him, it will encourage and overcome the peculiarities of rendering healthcare services in seven insurgency affected Local Government Areas of the state. Announcing the pay rise, at the weekend (Sunday), in Monguno, he disclosed: “Besides the doctors, nurses, midwives, laboratory technicians, pharmacists and other health workers in the seven councils, are to also benefit with a 20% pay rise.”

He said that the salary pay rises in the health sector, are to motivate doctors and other health workers deliver quality and affordable healthcare services to the people. He listed the councils to include Monguno, Ngala, Dikwa, Kukawa, Kala/Balge, Bama and Abadam, located on the shores of Lake Chad. He lamented that the councils were destroyed during the 13-year terrorism, with Bama the most hit.

After being conducted by the principal medical officer of Monguno Hospital, Dr. Solomon Thiza, Zulum directed the construction of additional staff quarters, a borehole and the installation of solar-powered electricity for effective service delivery. Zulum had in January, 2022 raised the salaries of doctors in the state commensurate with the Federal Government salary payment structure.

He stated that 676 medial workers, comprising 40 medical doctors, 241 nurses, midwives and other health workers were engaged in the last two years. “The pay rise for medical doctors in the state, could henceforth prevent them from working in federal healthcare institutions,” he noted.

Other government officials that accompanied the Governor including the Chief Whip at the National Assembly, Mohammed Monguno, the Attorney General and Commissioners of Justice, Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR) and Agriculture, Kaka Shehu Lawan, Mustapha Gubio and Bukar Talba respectively.
