The European Union (EU) BRICC, has supported the Yobe State Government with livelihood projects to improve living conditions of Internally Displaced Person (IDP) returnees in the state.
The BRICC Programme, is implemented by the consortium partners of Mercy Corps, COOPI and DRC on December 8, 2021.
While reviewing the programme at the weekend with stakeholders in Damaturu, held at the conference hall of Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, the SSG, disclosed that some state ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and emirates council members from Damaturu, Gujba/Gulani and Geidam/Yunusari were in attendance.
On the 2021 impact of community livelihood projects, the Programme Director of BRICC, Freeman Muleya, said: “The implemented livelihoods interventions projects comprise social protection with the provision of unconditional cash transfer to IDP returnees.”
He further disclosed that the intervention will also be support with the delivery of social safety nets (SSNs).
According to him, the SSN will improve social cohesion, conflict resolution and the management community sourced resources.
“Our safety nets could increase access to finance through the implementation of the Savings and Investment Associations (SIA) tagged: Adashen Gata.
He added that the implementation of the programme by the MDAs would improve on-farm production through climate smart agriculture and conditional grants support to small-holder farmers.
Besides farm livelihoods, he said that there would be vocational and entrepreneurial training of youths and women in the targeted councils.
Responding, Wali said the MDAs would not fail the EU in the implementation of livelihood support projects in targeted councils hit by over a decade of conflicts.
