Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) of the Nigerian Army have repelled the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on Katarko community in Gujba Council of Yobe state. The terrorists, who burst from Sambisa Forest attempted to attack the Katarko military base in 10 gun trucks, but were repelled by gallant troops on Sunday. Confirming the incident Monday in Damaturu, the state capital, the village head, Mai Modu Hassan disclosed that insurgents engaged the soldiers with a fierce gun battle that lasted for half an hour.
“We were forced along with our families to flee into nearby bushes for safety,” he lamented, adding that soldiers asked the residents not to panic but to stay calm, as they repelled the terrorists towards the forest. According to him, Sunday’s attack brings to three since January this year; as some of the villagers have relocated to Damaturu for safety. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Air Force under Operation Hadin Kai has continued its onslaught on terrorists’ targets in the Lake Chad region. It noted that the air component operations will be sustained until the area is rid of all terrorists.
