Army Thwarts ISWAP Attack On Surrendered Terrorists In Borno

Date:

Suspected terrorists of the Islamic State of West African Province(ISWAP) have attacked Damboa town hosting surrendered repentant Boko Haram terrorists along with their families. Damboa in Borno state, is 85 kilometres south of Maiduguri, the state capital and on the fringe of Sambisa Forest. The Saturday incident could not be confirmed, because of network problems, but Sector Commander of Civilian JTF, Madu Aisami said: “The ISWAP terrorists have desperately undermined the depletion of its fighters in the forest,” adding that they have resorted to attacks on surrendered Boko Haram members and their families in Damboa. He disclosed that the antics of terror within terror is being employed by ISWAP to discourage intending surrendering terrorists in their ranks.

Aisami also noted that ISWAP’s strategy is not unconnected with the frustration of the group as top ranking commanders and members denounce violent agitation to embrace peace in the last four months. On surrendered terrorists attack, he said, “The palpable apprehension might have led ISWAP on Saturday, 2 October 2021 to embark on a mission to annihilate or capture BHTs, who surrendered in Damboa,” noting that troops of 25 Task Force Brigade, Operation Hadin Kai forced the terrorists to withdraw in disarray. He said the troops ensured that Damboa did not fall to their antics of attacking the surrendered terrorists and families.
