The Governor of Yobe State and Chairman All Progressive Congress (APC) caretaker extraordinary convention planning committee, Mai Mala Buni; has applauded the Federal Government for siting an airstrip in the state. The airstrip is located at Wachakal; near Nguru and in Karasuwa Council area of the state and to be completed at N6.5 billion.
Buni, in a statement of his Spokesman, Mamman Mohammed on Monday in Damaturu, disclosed: “The need for an airport in the state is ‘strategic and necessary’ for security and economic benefits of the people.” The Governor noted that the airstrip will enhance easy movement of security personnel and equipment to fight terrorism and cross border crimes in the state. Besides, he added: “Our people will also take advantage of the airport for movement of goods and services.
“This is a commitment towards national development in the insurgency affected states. “We’ve the finest sesame seeds, hides and skin as well as livestock in Nigeria.” According to him, the airport would certainly facilitate local and international trade in the Northeast region. He therefore assured the support, cooperation and loyalty of the government and people of the state.
