SECRET RECRUITMENT SCANDAL IN NIMC

National Identity Management Commission, NIMC is under pressure. How to pay the salaries of workers that were allegedly secretly recruited is a major task before the commission.

Scrollreport learnt that last year about 200 workers were allegedly recruited secretly. It is also alleged that following the secrecy in management style, some Directors did not know about the recruitment while others knew and even brought people that were employed. The recruitment was said to have been done without due process, no advertisements or general information for members of the public to apply.It is also alleged that there was no interview

How to pay the salaries of these workers is now a big problem for NIMC. Scrollreport learnt that NIMC budget last year did not make provision for employment and salaries of new staff. This year budget is said to have not made provision for the salaries either
It is alleged that NIMC is now cutting down staff salaries nation wide. These staff are not happy because some of their allowances have allegedly not been paid.

While salaries of the new staff are still being owed, sine of them who were posted to some states were rejected because they are allegedly not trained so they cannot do the job for which they were posted.

Also some people who allegedly had problem of poor documentation in their previous employment and those with alleged fake certificates found their way back during the secret recruitment. Scrollreport learnt that there is also promotion issue that has not been resolved. The Personal Assistant to the Director General is alleged to have taken over the job of the Human Resources and is now involved in promotion exercise Promotion is said to have been done outside civil service arrangements.

Scrollreport contacted Loveday Ogbonna who is in charge of Media and he requested that the allegations be sent to him via email which he made available to Scrollreport. He did not respond. When contacted on phone he said he will respond on Tuesday February 13 but he did not. The following day Scrollreport called him again but he did not pick up. He did not also show evidence of budgetary allocation for the alleged recruitment
