Borno Receives Another Batch Of COVID-19 Vaccines

Borno State Government has taken delivery of another 66,366 doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for administer to the people across the state. While announcing the second phase of vaccination at the weekend in Maiduguri, the Executive Director of the Primary Healthcare Development Agency (BOPHDA), Dr. Goni Abba disclosed: “The receipt of the doses commences another round of COVID-19 vaccination exercise in the council areas and IDP camps.

“We’ve embarked on an aggressive sensitisation campaign to ramp up the COVID-19 vaccination to people above 18 years,” noting that it is slightly different from the Astrazeneca vaccine that was administered on frontline health workers and the vulnerable people. He explained that the vaccination will be conducted at 88 different health facilities across 25 accessible Local Government Areas. According to him, the remaining two councils will be carried out in IDP camps. He added that already, training of health workers have been completed at the state and local government levels.

He also said teams of health workers have been mobilized and deployed to different parts of the state. He said that they are to engage traditional, religious and opinion leaders on  sensitizing the people to accept the vaccine. Abba warned those people who took the first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine not to take the Moderna vaccine. “We’ll soon receive additional doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine,” he said. Meanwhile, the State Cold Chain Officer, Tijjani Nasir said that the solar direct drive equipment will be used in the storage of the Moderna vaccine. He also expressed confidence that the vaccines will be exhausted before its expiring date of December 2021.
