The Borno State Police Command has restricted vehicular movements for six hours to ensure a hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration in the state. The restrictions which commences Tuesday from 6am to 12 noon comprise cars, buses, trucks, tricycles, bicycles, wheelbarrows, including camels, donkeys and horses.
Spokesman of Command, Edet Okon, in a statement yesterday in Maiduguri, disclosed: “The Commissioner of Police, Bello Makwashi wishes to inform residents of Maiduguri metropolis and Jere Council that there will be restriction of vehicles up to 1200hrs on the Sallah day.” He therefore urged the people to arrive early to the praying grounds nearest to their homes for screening.
He noted that the early screening of people was to prevent public rush and stampede at the various praying grounds. The Muslims are also advised to wear their facemasks and observe social distance at the praying grounds. “For the avoidance of doubts, bags, weapons or sharp objects of any kind will not be allowed into the praying grounds,” he warned. He urged parents and guardians to be mindful of their children and wards at the praying grounds to prevent them from missing.
“You’re to report all suspicious persons, activities or objects to the police or other security agencies,” he said. Meanwhile, in Yobe State, the police commissioner, Yahaya Abubakar assured residents of sustained fight against crimes and other criminalities during and after Sallah in the state. Abubakar gave the assurance, while addressing Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and heads of department during the week under review.
According to him; “Yobeans are to be law abiding by obeying traffic and regulations. He charged the policemen to put in security measures that could ensure a hitch-free Sallah celebration across the state. He warned motorists against reckless driving and sustaining the existing relative peace in various communities. The police chief called on the people to be vigilant and security conscious during and after the celebration.
