The Yobe State Government has procured 6,000 doses of anti-rabies vaccines for the massive livestock inoculation programme. Programme Manager of the State’s Pilot Livestock Development, Dr. Idriss Madaki, disclosed this at the weekend, while flagging off the livestock vaccination exercise in Damaturu, the state capital.
While thanking the Federal, State Governments and Stakeholders for their support, he said: “The acquisition of these vaccines will check the spread of diseases among animals, including dogs and cats. The Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Mairo Amshi identified rabies; as a nervous zoonotic disease that affects about a million livestock across the state. She therefore urged individuals, corporate organisations, security agencies, hunters and herdsmen, to avail their pets for free vaccination against rabies. She warned that as a zoonotic disease; rabies could be transmitted to humans when people are in contact with the infected animals.
