Yobe CJ Confirms Financial Autonomy Of The Judiciary

Date:

The Yobe State Chief Judge, Justice Kashim Gomna has confirmed the financial autonomy of the judicial arm of government. According to him, the judiciary has 85% financial autonomy and has rescinded the judicial workers’ strike in the state. Gomna disclosed this at the weekend, when he led the High and Sharia Courts of Judges to pay Sallah homage to Governor Mai Mala Buni at Government House, Damaturu. He noted that the judicial workers joined the strike in solidarity with their colleagues across the country. He said that if the state judiciary were to decide individually, the entire workers have no reason to embark on such a strike, as financial autonomy has already been granted by the Governor. “We’re here before Your Excellency to express our confidence in meeting the needs of the judiciary,” he said, stating that with the 85 per cent financial autonomy there was no need for any strike in the state. While responding to the Judges, Governor Buni expressed satisfaction in the cordial working relationship between the Executive and Judiciary in the state. He therefore called on Judiciary to consider Nigerians who are victims of the recent industrial action. He cautioned that something must be done to rescue accidental victims of the judicial staff strike. End.
