Yobe Strategizes With Military, Security Agencies To Fight Boko Haram

The Yobe State Government has strategized with the military and security agencies to fight Boko Haram insurgency that claimed many lives and property. The strategies were unfolded Tuesday in Damaturu, the state capital in a seven-point communique issued at an expanded joint security council meeting held at Government House. The communique signed by Special Adviser on Security to the Governor, Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam disclosed that; “Nothing is more important to Buni than ensuring the safety and security of the people of Geidam and other parts of Yobe.” The security meeting attended by stakeholders, top government officials from the executive and legislative, traditional rulers, council chairmen and representatives of the police, civil defense and department of State Security Services (SSS) resolved that; the military and other security agencies should work to protect Geidam town and adjourning communities. “It will enable the people who have fled their homes to return and live in peace,” he said, adding that security agencies should incorporate hunters and vigilantes into the security architecture. According to him, the security architecture will ensure a broader approach in overcoming security challenges in the state. While implementing the adopted security resolutions, he said: “The security agencies should liaise more closely and engage actively with community leaders and the people,” noting that this will ensure synergy and intelligence sharing that would be useful to prevent terrorists’ attacks. On the roles of the police, he said: “Policemen should quickly re-establish their presence as a symbol of authority in Geidam,” adding that while traditional leaders should be engaged to restore public confidence, peace, and security in communities. He said the people of Geidam and other parts of the state; should report any suspicious objects and avoid handling any Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) that could have been planted by terrorists. On the part of the state government, he said Buni appreciates the efforts of security agencies in fighting Boko Haram insurgents. “I urge you to continue to do more to protect people’s lives and property in the state,” he said,” noting that they should also intensify their prayers for peace during the Ramadan fast.
