Three water supply companies have won the N8.4 billion Damaturu Water Supply (DWS) projects in Yobe. The proposed water projects are sited in Malam Matari and Murfakalam communities of the state. While signing the contracts Wednesday in Damaturu, Habu Hassan, the Assistant Director, Urban and Water Supply of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources disclosed that the water projects are to be completed in two years. The Federal Executive Council on February 10, 2021, earmarked the sum of N8.4 billion to complete the construction of the dam projects. He said the contracts have been awarded to Gamji Company, Ismade Integrated and Jiddu Ventures at the costs of N3.7 billion, N2.4 billion and N2.3 billion respectively. He noted that the contractors are to handle all groundwater or borehole-based water supply projects. According to him; lot ‘A’, for the Malam Matari project would be handled by Gamji Company Nigeria at N3.7 billion. While lot ‘B’, which is the Murfakalam, would be handled by Ismade Integrated at N 2.4 billion. He said that the lot ‘C’ water supply project is being handled by Jidadu Ventures Limited at a contract sum of N2.3 billion. He added that the project would be jointly supervised by Engineers from the Federal and Yobe state Ministries of Water Resources. “We want to inform the contractors that we are not going to compromise any standard,” he warned. The Yobe State Commissioner of Water Resources, Sen. Alkali Jajere who signed the contracts on behalf of the state government said the water projects suffered a lot of setbacks since 2006. He urged the construction firms to adhere strictly to the terms of contracts with federal and state governments. He said the completion of water supply projects will complement efforts of the government in addressing scarcity of potable water in Damaturu metropolis and communities. He therefore urged the contractors to adhere to the terms of contracts; including specifications and bills of quantity.
