The classical assertion of John C. Maxwell, that ‘leadership is not about titles, positions, or flow charts but about one life influencing another’ has been confirmed to be evidentially true to the natural trait and character of the Chief Medical Director (CMD), of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), Prof. Henry Ugboma. Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, made the avouchment in a statement made available to media houses where he acknowledged the efforts of Ugboma in responding to the human capital development and other critical needs of the distressed of society.

Particularly, the party Chief said the decision of Prof. Ugboma to erect a befitting structure and take up the responsibility of funding the burial arrangement of APC chieftain, Hon. Martyns Mannah, who represented the good people of Ahoada East Constituency 1 at the Rivers State House of Assembly and who died in his prime is heartwarming and indeed commendable. Describing it as unprecedented in the acts and arts of politicking in Rivers State, Chief Eze said the selfless lifestyle and infectious kindness of the CMD should be emulated by lovers of humanity, stressing that the problem of politics and leadership in Nigeria is that when people get opportunity to find themselves at the helm of affairs, they convert and corner the trapping of such offices as a family fiefdom where only members of their families and few associates and cronies are entitled to benefit from the goods that accrue from such office(s), leaving the rest members of society to wallow in poverty and dwell in deep want.

If politics is played the way Prof. Ugboma has chosen, the party stalwart said there will be less poverty amongst Nigerians, noting that Prof. Ugboma has paved the way for employment generation for the youths in addition to providing the enabling environment and bridging the gap in education created under the current administration of Wike and PDP, by ensuring that all those that crave for education are afforded the opportunity to go to school through the offer of scholarship. Eze said Ugboma has nurtured the good spirit of associating and identifying with those Nigerians either bereaved or are in need. “This is what politics should be if our nascent democracy must grow”. Eze said.

Eze highlighted that in ensuring that the building is carried out according to specification, Prof. Ugboma, in company of Sir Ngozi Yagba Abu, fmr. Accountant General of Rivers State and leader of APC in Ahoada East, with other party leaders visited the building site to supervise the level of work done on the structure and after expressing satisfaction, Ugboma urged the party faithful to continue to put  in their best in ensuring that the efforts of the fallen hero, Hon. Martins Mannah yield the desired results for the people. Eze reiterated that one other character that places Prof. Henry Ugboma on a different pedestal from the kind of politics played by some persons who claim to be lords over others, is his doggedness.

Governor Nyesom Wike uses every opportunity to abuse, castigate, decimate and ridicule both President Buhari who is the leader of APC and Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation who happens to be the Leader of the party in the Niger Delta region and yet, the party both at national and State and even the leaders prefer to keep mute and only wait for the leader of the party to arrive Port Harcourt so they will rush to welcome him and for the purposes of eye service,  whereas, basic things to keep the party afloat and relevant are neglected. Prof. Ugboma, as his custom is, already taken Gov. Wike to the cleaners over his discourteous and uncomplimentary comments against the Inspector General of Police, for allegedly posting Police Commissioners not on merit but on political patronage. These are issues that require responses from leaders of the APC in Rivers State.

Eze formally welcomes the new Police Commissioner, Mr Friday Eboka to Rivers State, describing him as a thorough professional, a versatile personality with an impeccable track record in crime-fighting as he becomes the command’s 42nd Commissioner of Police. It is sad and unfortunate that Governor Wike who is afraid of his past records with Mr. Joseph Mbu whom he used to torment and put Rivers State in bad light is afraid that a gentle Officer like Mr. Eboka will act like Mr. Mbu in his infamous acts when he was in Rivers State.  Eze reiterated that if we actually need a Commissioner of Police that will assist Rivers State to curb and tackle the menace of criminality growing rapidly in the State where kidnapping, assassination havr become the order of the day, then Mr. Friday Eboka is that officer who has intimidating records in crime-fighting..

Eze urged him not to be intimidated in any way by the Governor and his actions but to do his best to secure the State from the hands of criminals. Prior to his appointment, Eboka was the Commissioner of Police, Railway Command in Lagos and the mere mention of RAILWAY to him scares Wike so much that made him to start to cry even before the arrival of this crime fighter, Eze pointed out. Eze took time to congratulate and commend Prof. Ugboma and asked him not for any reason be deterred  in his efforts to assist other leaders to ensure that the draconian leadership of PDP in Rivers State becomes a thing of the past come 2023.
