The Yobe State Governor and Chairman All Progressive Congress (APC) Caretaker Extraordinary Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni has called on candidates for a peaceful council elections. The council elections slated for Saturday, February 27, 2021 would be conducted in Local Government Areas (LGAs) for 17 chairmen and 178 councilors. According to him, the candidates and their supporters should conduct themselves peacefully throughout the electioneering campaigns. In a statement Wednesday in Damaturu, the state capital, Director General, Press and Media Affairs to Buni, Mamman Mohammed disclosed that the Governor urged the people to elect candidates peacefully with respect to rights of others.
“This state is a pacesetter and role model in peaceful electioneering,” he said, adding that it should be sustained and promoted for a peaceful election, slated for next Saturday. He noted that the candidates have never allowed their political differences to them apart. “It must never be different in the forthcoming elections,” he said. According to him, the election of chairmen and councilors revolves around brothers and sisters so it should be carried out peacefully without any hitch.
“Every eligible voter should be allowed to exercise his right of electing a leader of his choice,” he said. He therefore appealed to the State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC) to ensure justice and fairness to all candidates and electorates.
