Borno Confirms 35 New Cases Of COVID-19 In A Week

The Borno state Ministry of Health has confirmed 35 coronavirus (COVID-19) new cases with no deaths last week. According to the Ministry, 865 cumulative confirmed cases were also recorded at the end of the Epidemiological week two. This was disclosed yesterday (Thursday) in a statement of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Weekly Snapshot on COVID-19 released to newsmen in Maiduguri. “The 865 cases were confirmed in 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) with Maiduguri and Jere councils topping 555 and 130 cases respectively,” said the statement. It noted that 55 active cases; are receiving treatments, while nine patients were discharged during the same period. “There are 15,023 total initial samples tested at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) laboratory,” said the statement, noting that the cumulative positivity stood at 5.8%. On challenges of COVID-19, it said: “There was an increase in the number of confirmed cases; while sample collection is on the decrease.”
