The N-Power Youth Congress (N-PYC) has demanded for the absorption of disengaged 500,000 members across the country. The demand was made Saturday, while N-PYC’s National Coordinator, Hon. Joseph Enan Maigari held a news conference in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital. “This is the third news conference; we are holding on same issue. Yet, the Federal Government, has refused to listen to our demands,” he lamented.
He said if government cannot absorb disengaged members of congress, N500 billion grant be paid to each 500,000 youths as “exit packages.” Continued; “I critically followed the Presidential speech last Thursday, as a response to EndSARS protest demand, but nothing was pronounced about the fate of 500,000 youths. According to him, the youths were disengaged from the N-Power scheme by federal government. On Presidential campaign pledges, he said: “We’re reminding President Muhammadu Buhari once again of his promises to us,” noting that the youths will never relent, until their demands are met. He added that 36 State Representatives of N-Power beneficiaries have also earlier stated their alternative demands. While lamenting their disengagements, he said: “We were struggling in different spheres of life to make a living.
“We were also meant to quit the things we were doing, before being engaged into the N-Power scheme,” adding that government also pledged to absorbed youths after, wind up of scheme. He noted that the youths were made to serve the country, with monthly a token of N30, 000. He said the monthly allowances cannot meet their families’ basic needs, including school fees, electricity and water bills. “How much does a bag of rice and four-litre cooking oil cost in the market,” he asked.
On exist grant packages, he said: “Absolve members that want to work with Federal Government and give them a reasonable exit package to venture into businesses and other entrepreneurial enterprises.” He said Boko Haram insurgents were empowered under the auspices of “Repentant Boko Haram. According to him; “The innocent and armless 500,000 graduates have been crying every day, but one listens our cries,” adding that they will continue to be law abiding citizens. He said that the youths want the President to understand that a hungry man is also an angry person.
