The Borno State Government, has inaugurated the Social Protection
Panel (SPP) to implement specific social protection policy.
Inaugurating committee at the weekend in Maiduguri, the Deputy
Governor, Umar Kadafur said that the panel is tasked to spearhead
process of specific social protection programme.
According to him, the aim of inaugurating the committee, was to
actualize specific social protection of the vulnerable in society.
Kadafur, who represented Governor Babagana Zulum at the inauguration,
will also serve and the Chairman of steering committee.
He added that the committee members; will drive the achievements of an
all-inclusive social protection in the state.
“With this caliber of people on the panel, I’m confident that the
social protection in the state is being handed over to right hands,”
he said.
He therefore, urged them to carry out their role in charting the
course of social protection with utmost commitment and dedication.
While responding on behalf of Deputy Chairman of committee, who is the
Secretary to the State Government, Usman Shuwa, the State Commissioner
of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR), Mustapha
Gubio said composition of steering committee with top government
officials, are charged to spearhead the process of specific social
protection policy.
He said the social protection steering committee project; is jointly
sponsored by the state government, European Union (EU) and Action
against Hunger.
According to him, the panel is to implement a multi-sectorial early
recovery and resilience projects in five councils of Monguno, Damboa,
Nganzai, Mobbar and Kaga.
The councils, were also affected in the decade long Boko Haram
insurgency that claimed 36,000 lives and property worth $9.2 billion
(N3.423 trillion) in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.
