NYSC renders free medical care to 2,000 Borno IDPs

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has offered ‘free medical
services’ to 2,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Maiduguri of
Borno state.

The medical outreach; followed the deteriorating and pathetic health
conditions IDPs at the NYSC camp.

While inaugurating free medical services at the weekend, in Maiduguri,
NYSC’s State Coordinator, Nura Umar, disclosed that; “the exercise was
in continuation of efforts enhance quality healthcare delivery
services to the vulnerable,” noting that it will improve the wellbeing
of displaced persons in camp.

According to him, in rendering comprehensive healthcare, a
mini-laboratory has been set up in camp for conducting test and
administration of patients.

He said that drugs were given to patients based on prescriptions of
doctors, while others were counseled with referrals made when the need
arises.

He noted that the health outreach; was designed to promote national
unity, sociocultural integration.

“The medical outreach in its third phases, are to facilitate national
development in all sectors of the country,” he said.

He added that it will make the scheme’s presence felt through various
interventions in health, education, agriculture and infrastructural
development sectors of economy.

According to him, the interventions, are to enhance the quality of the
socio-economic life of its host communities.

He therefore, assured that the medical outreach for IDPs could be
sustained to improve living conditions in camps.

While thanking the Coordinator, Usman Galtimari, an IDP asked for its
sustenance, while calling on philanthropists and corporate
organisations to emulate the scheme by supporting the less privileged
