The Yobe Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has hiked electricity
tariff to N59.12 per kilowatt of electricity consumed by in the
Northeast.
The new electricity tariff, was reviewed by Nigerian Electricity
Regulatory Commission (NERC) with effect from September 1, 2020.
YEDC attributed tariff increases to power sector reforms based on the
expenditure tariff designs of the commission.
Announcing the new electricity tariff Wednesday in Maiduguri, YEDC’s
Seniour Manager, Kingsley Nkemneme stated that the ‘new service
reflective tariff’ was designed to guarantee reliable power supply to
customers.
He added that it will ensure transparency of tariff methodology, as it
comes into effect from September 1, 2020.
According to him, consumers will be expected to pay their electricity
bills, based on the quality and hours of electricity supply received.
He said tariff under band C; will be charged between N51.12 and N59.12
per kilowatts consumed.
While customers under tariff band D of tariff class of non-MD and MD
1-2 are to pay between N46.46 and N53.57 a kilowatt for eight hours of
electricity supply.
He however noted that there is a tariff for customers under band D,
including customers with a service commitment of less than 12 hours of
power supply a day for a month.
“We shall continue to charge customers in band D of the tariff applied
prior to this order,” he said.
