The Federal Government; has delivered coronavirus (COVID-19)
palliatives to over 40,000 vulnerable households in Yobe.
The palliatives comprise, 69 truckloads of maize, millet and sorghum
for distribution to each households across the state.
Presenting the grains Tuesday in Damaturu, to the state government,
Director-General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Air
Vice Marshall, Muhammadu Muhammed (rtd) disclosed that; the
palliatives was to cushion devastating effects of COVID-19 pandemic on
vulnerable.
Muhammed, who was represented by North East Acting Zonal Coordinator
of Agency, Ishaya Chunoko said: “Yobe also benefitted from an
Emergency Agricultural Intervention approved by President Muhammadu
Buhari last year.”
He said that over 11,000 farmers, are also to receive farm and
livestock inputs, including improved seedlings, agro-chemicals, and
knapsack sprayers.
He added that about 6,000 farmers would soon receive livestock to
revive their poultry production affected by decade long insurgency.
While receiving the palliatives and farm inputs, Permanent Secretary,
in the Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management,
Ibrahim Shuaibu said the palliative be distributed equitably across
the 17 council areas.
