Yobe Awards N88.34m Contracts To Digitize Two Media Outfits

Yobe State Government has awarded contracts to two firms for the
“digitization and globalization” of state owned media houses of Yobe
Broadcasting Corporation (YBC) and Yobe State Television (YTV).
The digitization projects; are awarded to Tiggen Technology Nigeria
and Elroth Global Resources and Enterprising at total costs of N88.34
million.
While singing the contracts Thursday on behalf of state government,
the Commissioner of Information, Abdullahi Bego disclosed that;
“Today’s contract agreements will see the purchase, supply and
installation of modern equipment at the two broadcast stations.”
He added that the other contract, include the repairs of YBC burnt
studio that occurred on Wednesday night of June 17, 2020.
He therefore, charged the contractors to work on the timely execution
of the contracts with strict compliance with all contractual
agreement, including transmission and broadcast specifications.
“Your respective compliances to the terms of agreements will ensure an
efficient global digitalization of our Television and Radio stations,”
he said.
He noted that Governor Mai Mala Buni is poised to repositioning the
face of the media in the state to meet every global standard it
requires.
On details of awarded contract, he said the contract for YBC is for
the supply and installation of an on air equipment and acoustic for
the burnt studio of FM station.
He also added that they will respectively cost N18.3m and N2.9m for
repairs of the burnt down broadcast building.
According to him, another contract signed for YBC include, the supply
and refurbishing of broadcasting equipment for AM and FM stations at
cost of N39 million.
He noted that signing of the contract is a step towards hooking up the
state radio to Global Radio Garden (GRG).
“It could be accessed and received anywhere in the world,” said Bego.
On how YBC to be digitized, he said: “This is the initial phase of the
digitization process. With this contract, YBC would be able to
broadcast 24 hours online.
“While the station broadcasts during their normal broadcasting hours,
for the remainder of the night up to the next day of the transmission,
the services of the station will be on a website that will be created
and available on radio garden.
“The next phase for YBC is to ensure that the transmission radius of
the station is upgraded so that all parts of the state and even
neighboring states can receive the signals of the radio stations.”
Speaking on YTV, he further disclosed that; “This contract involves
the purchase of antenna system, installation and repairs of 1032
Feeder Cable at YTV Transmission station.
“They will be procured and installed by Tiggen Tech. Nigeria Limited
at the total cost of N28.14 million.”
The Business Development Manager of Elroth Global Resources and
Enterprising, Mrs. Elizabeth Gotan, represented contractors; commended
Buni for the Television and Radio digitalization project.
She said that the execution of digitalization project; will open the
state to the outside world and make governance easier for the
government and its people.
She also pledged to abide by all contractual agreement and
specification including timely delivery of the project.
