Boko Haram kills 13 Borno villagers in fresh attacks

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists in gun trucks and motorcycles attacked
two Magumeri communities Monday, killing over two dozen farmers and
herders in Borno.
Yesterday’s fresh attacks occurred in Puciwa and Koleram communities
of Magumeri Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the incident Tuesday in Maiduguri, Acting Secretary of
Council, Mallam Wali disclosed that; “The insurgents stormed the twin
farming communities in the evening. They also rustled their cattle,
including sheep and goats,” adding that 16 villagers were also injured
in yesterday’s attacks.
According to him, the abduction of five workers/staff of an oil
exploration firm and the Department of Geology, University of
Maiduguri occurred in same council in 2019.
“Barely an hour after the attacks, our people had to flee to Magumeri
for safety,” he said, adding that some of the villagers could only
carry a few of their personal effects to take refuge in Magumeri, the
council headquarters, 40 kilometres north of Maiduguri, the state
capital.
He added that communities bordering the council areas of Magumeri,
Gubio/Gajiram, were currently under Boko Haram control.
While lamenting incessant attacks, he said: “We are much terrified
with the latest and deadly attacks by insurgents.
“The whole communities in border with Magumeri council headquarters
and in Gubio/Gajiram axis bordering Nganzai Local Government Area are
daily being terrorized by insurgents.”
According to him, Puciwa and Koleram communities are currently under
Boko Haram control.
He added that the fresh attacks have led to the loss of many lives
with over a dozen injured villagers.
He said that the means of livelihoods of fleeing villagers were also
being destroyed by insurgents.
“But we are doing our best to ensure that displaced persons are
properly taken care,” he said, noting that the council is
collaborating with security agencies to ensure peace in the affected
communities.
