The ex-Borno Governor, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, loses father in a dawn
fire outbreak along Damboa road, Maiduguri, the state capital.
Alhaji Modu Sheriff was the Galadima of Borno Emirate, before this
house was engulfed in fire in early hours of Thursday.
The deceased was the Galadima of Borno Emirate.
A sources close to family told The Guardian that the former
traditional title holder, had been managing a prolonged ailment the
prevented him not to escape the 3am fire incident.
“Our family home fire incident occurred just four hours into 14-day
lock down over COVID-19 in Maiduguri metropolis,” said the family
source; adding that the cause of fire, is yet to be ascertained.
Even though the Sheriff family has not issued any statement concerning
the death of deceased, messages of condolence continues to flood
social media handles of the bereaved children.
The state government has also not issued an official condolence up to
the time of filing this report.
But, the Special Adviser to Governor Babagana Zulum on media, Malam
Isa Gusau, described the passage of Sheriff as a huge loss to the
state.
He said the twin death of late Abba Kyari, former Chief of Staff to
President Muhammadu Buhari who died after contracting COVID-19
disease, and Alhaji Sheriff who died in an inferno were, according to
Islamic belief acts of martyrdom.
Gusau in the statement also said that the two Borno state
personalities died as a result of disasters which he described as
signs of absolution by God.
