President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the Minister of Humanitarian
Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajiya Sadiya Farouk to investigate
and report the fire outbreak at a camp in Borno state.
The Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp of Gambouru/Ngala was
gutted by fire on Thursday, killing 14 people.
Seniour Special Assistant to the President, Garba Shehu Friday in a
statement in Maiduguri; said: “The President described the inferno as
extremely horrifying to the news of 14 persons killed; while dozens of
IDPs were injured in the fire incident at Ngala IDP camp in Borno.”
Responding to the sad incident, the Buhari directed the Ministry of
Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to
investigate and report the circumstances that led to the destruction
lives and property in the state.
“Hajiya Sadiya Farouk should also advise on how future occurrences
could be averted to save people’s lives and property.”
He also directed that urgently needed assistance be immediately given
to the victims.
He prayed to God for the repose of souls of those whose lives were
lost, and quick recovery of the injured persons.
