Army kills 105 terrorists, recovers arms in Yobe

Troops of Sector 2, Operation Lafiya Dole, have killed 105 Boko Haram
and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists during
Buni/Gari operations in Yobe state.
During the six-hour operations in the Buni/Gari/Biu axis, a cache of
arms and ammunition, were also recovered.
Commander of Sector 2, Brig-Gen. Lawrence Araba confirmed the incident
Sunday, while briefing Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai on
Saturday’s military operations.
While inspecting the recovered arms, Buratai applauded the troops for
their gallantry and resilience that led to the killing of dozens of
terrorists at Buni Gari in Gujba council of Yobe state.
He further commended the troops, after visiting the injured troops at
the Field Ambulance Logistics Base 3 Damaturu and Special Forces’
School, Buni/Yadi.
Araba told Buratai that the suspected terrorists attempted to
infiltrate and attack Buni/Gari community in Yobe state on April 18,
2020.
Buratai visited two officers that were wounded in action during the
Buni/Gari encounter and other soldiers already on admission at the
medical facility in Damaturu before proceeding to Special Forces’
School at Buni/Yadi where.
He was briefed on the incident by the Commander, Sector 2 OPLD, Brig-Gen. Araba.
According to Araba, the recent success was as a result of intelligence
report which revealed plan by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to attack
Buni/Gari community.
“Based on intelligence received about the plan by the terrorists to
attack Buni Gari, our troops swiftly intercepted and engaged the
criminals in fierce battle that led to the killing of 105 Boko
Haram/ISWAP terrorists,” he said; adding that several arms and
ammunition were also recovered.
According to him, the recovered cache of arms and ammunition were
inspected by Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai at Buni/Gari,
Yobe state.
Buratai therefore; charged troops to upscale their counter-insurgency
operations to defeat terrorists still hibernating in forests of Borno
and Yobe states.
