VSF Empowers 3,000 Northeast Households With Farm Inputs

The Victims Support Fund (VSF); has flagged off the distribution of agricultural inputs to 3,000 households for 2019/20 dry season framing in Northeast. The targeted households are drawn from three councils of Jakusko, Chibok and Mubi in Yobe, Borno and Borno states, affected by decade long insurgency. While inaugurating the distribution, VSF’s Executive Director, Prof. Sunday Ochoche on Wednesday at Amshi, Yobe state, said: “What is happening today is actually not a Yobe state programme alone. “Three thousand households will receive the agricultural inputs across the Northeast region; affected by Boko Haram insurgency. “Their means of livelihoods, were destroyed in the over a decade long insurgency that claimed many lives and property.”

According to him, the households will be given irrigation water pumps, improved varieties of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and sprayers to improve farmers’ yields and productivity. He said dry-season farming programme was also to improve household nutrition and engender financial independence of returnee victims to their communities. Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state reiterated his administration’s determination to strengthen the partnership with VSF to restore people’s destroyed livelihoods. Buni, who was represented by Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Garba Iliya, assured that the state government will continue to partner and support VSF along with various government agencies. Aisha Labbo and Sharif Musa, pledged to employ the distributed inputs to restore their livelihoods for self-reliance.
