BORNO GOVERNMENT TO SPEND N3BILLION ON 39 YEAR OLD ROAD

Governor Babagana Umara of Borno state, has said that N3 billion has been earmarked for the rehabilitation of Maiduguri-Gwoza road. The 39-year old road covers 135 kilometres in linking six borders communities of Pulka, Banki, Kirawa, Asghashiya, Limankara and Ngoshe. Pindar Sawa, the Director of Press at the Government House; in a statement Saturday in Maiduguri said the announcement; was made when Umara visited Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Mohammed Timta in his familiarization tour of nine councils. He said the project will be completed; to link, the state capital with southern Borno and six border communities with Adamawa state and Cameroon.

His words: “The rehabilitation and rebuild of this road; will also ease the movements of goods and services to markets and communities. “This could also accelerate socioeconomic development of the liberated border communities of Banki, Pulka, Kirawa and Gwoza.” He also announced plans by the state government; to construct drainage facilities and check flooding of affected communities along Rivers Yadzeram and Ngaddabul. He said government would establish skill acquisition centers in parts of the state to provide jobs opportunities for youths.

“This administration had adopted measures to reinvigorate agriculture sector by creating an enabling environment for massive participation,” he said. He therefore, commended community leaders on the supports they provide to the implementation of government policies and programmes. While applauding the military and other security agencies, he said they have paid sacrifices on campaigns against Boko Haram insurgency.
