BUNI DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY IN EDUCATION SECTOR

Governor Maimala Buni of Yobe state; has on Wednesday declared a state of emergency in the education sector to build foundation for future generations. Education, according to him, is the bedrock of any meaningful development for a society or nation move to greater socioeconomic heights. Buni made the declaration; in his inaugural speech to the people at the Government House, Damaturu. His words: “I hereby declare a state of emergency on primary and secondary education in Yobe. This will enable the state government build a solid and robust foundation for the advancement of education in the state. “As a matter of deliberate policy, government will provide the necessary support in taking the education sector to greater heights. He said that in spite of security challenges, the Gaidam administration has recorded improvements in educational developments. Continuing, he added: “We’re not unmindful of the over stretched facilities in schools and, the need to provide more. “We are also conscious of the increase in population of some communities especially, where displaced persons choose to settle in them. “This administration ensures the prompt payment of counterpart funds to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), to access grants improve primary education. He said in accordance with declaration of emergency in education, government will build more schools, classrooms and employment of more teachers along with increased instructional materials. According to him, the education strategy, will replicated at secondary level to make education attractive and functional. “Parents and guardians in the state would be free from burden of paying school and examination fees for their wards,” he pledged.
