TROOPS CLASHED WITH BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS, TWO SOLDIERS INJURED IN YOBE

Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have on Monday clashed with Boko Haram terrorists at a military base with the injuring of two soldiers in Kannama, Yobe state. Kannama is council headquarters of Yunusari; located 215 kilometres north of Damaturu, the state capital. The insurgents, struck at about 5.30pm and commenced shooting sporadically, before soldiers engaged them with superior fire power. Spokesman of Nigerian Army, Brig-Gen. Sani Usman in a statement released Tuesday in Damaturu said the coordinated air support from Air Component of Operation Lafiya Dole repelled insurgents towards border area with Niger. According to him, the terrorists were overwhelmed by the superior fire power of military to flee with gunshot wounds. “This resulted in inflicting casualty on the terrorists, while some of them retreated with gunshot wounds,” he said, adding that troops have embarked on hot pursuit of fleeing terrorists towards the border areas. He however noted that two soldiers were wounded in the three-hour repulsion, while the injured are in stable condition and receiving medical attention. On casualties, Usman said: “Further details of the casualties on the terrorists and recoveries would be provided on completion of the mop up and pursuit operations.”
